Last week was all about focusing on dieting to raise awareness of beauty and health. This week, we’re taking it up a notch and dedicating the week to fasting.
Over the next two days, we’ll dive deeper into the basics of fasting—its overview and key points. Then, three days from now, let’s begin a five-day fasting session in a way that suits your individual needs.
Let’s start with the fundamentals.
Why Fasting is Needed
From the perspective of dietary habits and how our bodies work, our ancestors survived by battling hunger. As a result, our bodies inherited mechanisms to store energy efficiently.
However, in modern developed countries like Japan, very few people have to worry about constant hunger. Instead, we live in an era where “you can eat as much as you want, whenever you want.” This abundance has made it easier for toxins and harmful substances to accumulate in our bodies. Overeating and the excessive intake of processed foods have led to a decline in metabolic function, creating conditions where body fat and toxins are stored more easily.
Major Sources of Modern Toxins:
Food additives
Pesticide residues
Radioactive substances
Genetically modified foods
Hydrolysed wheat
Acid-forming elements
Vinyl and mineral-based contaminants
Environmental hormones
What is Fasting, and What Are Its Benefits?
What is Fasting?
Fasting is a method to rest the digestive system and cleanse the body. It helps remove processed foods, additives, and other harmful substances, restoring the body to a healthier state.
Originally, fasting was practised as a form of religious ritual or spiritual discipline. However, in recent years, it has gained popularity for health maintenance and beauty purposes.
The Purpose of Fasting
In my view, fasting is not simply about "skipping meals." Instead, it’s about reducing the burden on the body and improving gut health. Key benefits include:
Normalising nutrient absorption within the body
Promoting fat burning and increasing energy levels
Boosting waste elimination and activating metabolism
Deep cleansing of cells to refresh the entire body
